Dear Me, - 6/27-29/17
I was at camp for three days. THREE DAYS. "Why" you might be asking, "is that such a big deal??" I've been camping before. The tent on the ground and a lot of ice, and coolers, and the usual alcohol bottle, the whole shabang. But this time was different, this time it rained, and the tent I was sharing with SIX girls leaked, and I was forced to fix it. I used a lot of stakes and rope, but NOTHING seemed to work. we eventually just got a tarp and sat under there and played mafia. This was just a little bit of the trip. I shall continue below.
Ok so Day 1, the day we left, I got up at 11:00 and we had to be to the building to depart for camp by twelve. The drive was about 40 mins long. I still didn't have a bunch of things but oh well, rushing never hurt anyone. After finally finding everything, sort of, I forgot to say bye to my dog who I love so much, which I still feel bad about, and ran out of the house and put everything in the car where we drove 40 mins to drop-off. We actually made it on time surprisingly and I waited about 15 mins for everyone to arrive and the did those ice-breaker games people do to waste time while the bus was arriving. We then loaded everything up, drove, arrived, unpacked, and then made dinner. I did not eat dinner, It was thrown away and then someone put the second half, which was to make up for dinner, into the fire... RIP my potato. We then went on a bat hike and saw at least 10 bats. (Bats are being killed by white nose disease which is really sad because they kill mosquitos and are cute in general) That night I didn't sleep at all and kissed a girl for the first time. We had been playing Truth or Dare but it went... off...
Day two it rained all morning and leaked all day. That day was when we were going to go rock climbing and kayaking but there was lightning so we only climbed. After the rain was done, which it had interrupted our breakfast, we made bag lunches and walked 2 1/2 miles to our climbing spot, which was up a hill, with slippery stairs made of rock slabs, to a cliff where we rappelled down the side. (rappelling- descend a rock face or other near-vertical surface by using a doubled rope coiled around the body and fixed at a higher point. (thanks google)) It was slippery and I slipped while backing off the edge, but don't worry I'm fine, i had a rope holding me. It was a beautiful view, there was steam coming off the rocks and we were really high up over the trees.
After we were done we started our descent and heard thunder, again. (I had also made a new guy friend who I've been shipped with. But it won't sail) We got back down and it started raining. The counselors decided to use the one car they had, which could only fit three kids at a time, to shuttle us back to camp. I was in the unlucky group who had to walk back because the rain stopped too soon. It was a pretty walk tho. We got back just as they released a tornado warning.... we sat in the bathroom for three hours doing nothing. I fell asleep on the plastic tarp they brought in. The last day we went kayaking and then went back home. It was a really fun trip and I wish I had brought my phone to take photos. But oh well. I will next year. (its 2am right now... whoops)
